Cunard White Star Line, RMS 'Queen Mary', 3rd class entrance art deco staircase landing light fixture, probably by GEC, c-1936. Original sandblasted domed & stepped glass and solid nickel bronze mount. Could easily be installed over an existing built in light fixture.
Removed from the ship in 1967 during the conversion, sold off as surplus in the late 1970's.
These lamps were installed throughout the 3rd class entrance landings forward around the main 3rd class staircase, several can still seen throughout the ship (see photo of these identical fixtures in situ), mainly on the landings on the staircases of the 3rd class. This light fixture hailed from the landings of those staircases that were removed in the 1967- conversion.
I have been lucky enough to buy two large collections of light fixtures over the last five years, the majority I am keeping and reusing and re fitting into my own home, this is one that I have chosen to part with in part to fund the restoration of the others. It is a very rare opportunity to own a light fixture from the ship, I can't say I have seen many light fixtures from the ship, as the majority are thankfully still onboard.
