Rare probably unique White Star Line, HMHS 'Britannic' silver plated, in memorandum arts & crafts stud box, beautifully hand man by artisans from one of the famous guilds such as the Guild of Handicraft or the Duchess of Sutherland's Cripples Guild.
This would have most likely been a special one off comission, probably from someone of means connected to the ship and its sinking.
Beautiful hand tooled portait of the ship in harbour, stunning detail of the unmistakable shape of the 'Olympic' class ship and her giant davits, her short lived dates at the bottom. The rest of the box, probably for gents studs or jewellery, is a feast of the arts & crafts movement, all hand tooled and hand beaten. The rope border is stunning than runs around the two halves, the inside is also gilded in real gold, such is the outstanding quality of this piece.
The best item from Britannic I have ever seen on the open market, a true museum piece.
Also this comes from the an awesome provenance coming from the collection of the well known anglo american collector, Warner Dailey. Dailey has a distinguished reputation as collector but also a dealer supplying the likes of the Malcolm Forbes. He recently decided to sell his collection of militaria built up over decades, from which this little prized beauty came, also included is a recent article about Dailey and his collection from the Antiques Trade Gazette.
