KING EDWARD VII, ROYAL YACHT "VICTORIA & ALBERT III" ORMOLU THREE BRANCH WALL SCONCE LIGHT FIXTURES, FROM THE OFFICIAL STATE RECEPTION ROOM OR LOBBY TO THE YACHTS MAIN STAIRCASE, C-1899/1900.

OUTSTANDING 'ROYAL' QUALITY, IT REALLY DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER QUALITY WISE. THE PIECE IS DRIPPING IN A THICK ORIGINAL ORMOLU, UNTOUCHED SINCE THE DAY IT LEFT THE YACHT BACK IN 1954, WHEN SHE WAS BROKEN UP.

HIGH EDWARDIAN REVIVAL DESIGN, TYPICAL OF THE GILDED ERA.

THESE FIXTURES CAN CLEARLY BE SEEN IN THE RECEPTION LOBBY OF THE YACHT, THE PRINCIPAL RECEPTION ROOM TO THE YACHTS STATEROOM, ANYBODY OF SUBSTANCE WHO VISITED THE YACHT WOULD HAVE PAST THESE FIXTURES.

ROYAL YACHT FIXTURES OF THIS CALIBER RARELY EVER COME ONTO THE OPEN MARKET, THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION THE FINEST FIXTURE FROM A STATEROOM I HAVE EVER HAD OR SEEN ON THE OPEN MARKET. MOST ITEMS FROM THE ROYAL YACHTS WERE RE USED ON SUBSEQUENT YACHTS, RE USED BY THE ROYAL FAMILY IN OTHER PROJECTS OR PLACED WITHIN ROYAL NAVY ARCHIVES OR MUSEUMS, SO A VERY RARE CHANCE TO OWN A MAJOR FITTING FROM A FAMOUS ROYAL YACHT.

I PURCHASED THIS FIXTURE AROUND 2004 FROM THE FAMILY OF A FORMER ROYAL YACHTSMAN, HE HAD RETIRED TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT. HE WAS PRESENTED WITH THE FIXTURE AS A SOUVENIR WHILST THE SHIP WAS BEING BROKEN UP AND DISMANTLED IN PORTSMOUTH IN AROUND 1954. I THEN SOLD THE FIXTURE AT CHRISTIES SOUTH KENSINGTON MARINE SALE, 2005. I WAS RECENTLY LUCKY ENOUGH TO BUY THE LIGHT FIXTURE BACK FROM THE COLLECTOR WHOM HAD PURCHASED IT THEN.

ORIGINALLY WHEN INSTALLED THIS SCONCE WOULD HAVE HAD THREE GLASS TUBES AS 'FAUX' CANDLES, THESE SLIDE OVER THE BULB HOLDERS. THE BULB HOLDERS STILL RETAIN THEIR RUBBER 'BUNGS' AND WASHERS TO SILENCE THE TUBES FROM 'CHATTERING' AND DISTURBING THE ROYAL PASSENGERS OF THEIR GUESTS, THESE ARE MISSING BUT COULD EASILY BE REPLACED. IN THE ARCHIVAL PICTURE THE SHADES WERE SIMPLE WIRE 'CANDLE SHADE' STYLE SCREENS, AGAIN THESE COULD EASILY BE RE CREATED. THIS LAMP HAS NOT BEEN TOUCHED SINCE THE DAY IT LEFT THE YACHT, IT EVEN RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL SILK LINED WIRING (SEE PICTURES) IT WOULD RE WIRE AND LOOK STUNNING.

A THING OF TRUE BEAUTY.

ONE OF THE FINEST MARINE LIGHT FIXTURES I HAVE EVER HAD, EXCEPTIONAL.

THIS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL MUSEUM STANDARD PIECE.

IN CONDITION AS SHOWN, PLEASE CONSULT AND SEE PICTURES.
