Gct, french line, ss 'normandie', 92 piece service silver flatware from the french legend very own 1st class service.
Originally from the ken shultz collection, this actual service sold in christies ocean liner sale, 1st june 2006 for $16,800 plus commission, so in today's monet in uk sterling more than £11,500 plus commission.

1st Class flatware place setting used on board the S.S. Normandie, Cristofle, paris; circa 1935

In the 'atlas' pattern, and used on board the S.S. Normandie for the First Class service, in silver plate, includes oyster forks (2), salad forks (10), main course forks (22), dinner knives (11), fish knives (10), dessert teaspoons (18), soup spoons (10), and dessert spoons (9), (92)
8 in. (20.3 cm.) and smaller (92)

Ex:- the Kenneth C. Schultz collection

Literature:-
Louis-rené Vian, Art Décoratifs á bord des Paquebots Français, éditions fonmare, Paris, 1994, pp. 222 for an illustration of this pattern.

Condition on all pieces is very good 90% looks almost unused, the knives have seen use and show some ware but all in all very very good order, all 'cgt' marks are very very deep and clear. It is the best near complete set I have ever seen on the open market, as good as you are ever likely to find again. I cleaned one of each to demonstrate the condition. All makers stamps are all very clear.

This cutlery is rare, you see the off piece here and there, more often then not in very worn condition, pitted and very much used. It is believed this particular service left the ship during her layup in new york and never returned to cgt after being sold off. The majority of this stuff went on to be reused on other cgt ships or in hotel etc, as such its always found in a worn state, this is as it was in the 1930's.

A museum standard opportunity.
