New important Ocean Liners exhibit opening!

We are pleased to announce the opening of the upcoming 'Ocean Liners, Glamour, Speed, and Style' at PEM, Peabody Essex Museum, Salem MA, in association with the V&A London.

We are pleased to have been involved with this major exhibit and have loaned four items from our personal collection.

Four of the items that we are loaning for the upcoming exhibit waiting in the lounge prior to packing and picking up for their transatlantic journey from the Isle of Wight, UK, to Salem MA, USA.

To include, the original Cunard letters from the companies Southampton headquarters, c-1960's/70's. 1st Class arm chair and table from the Long Gallery, RMS "Queen Mary" c-1936. And finally a monumental hand thrown vase by the famous firm of Poole Pottery, c-1938, from the Cabin Class staircase of the RMS "Queen Elizabeth".

One of the beautiful bespoke boxes constructed especially for each item on loan, in this case the crate for the unique Poole Pottery monumental vase from Queen Elizabeth's Cabin staircase, c-1938.

The Poole Pottery vase from the Queen Elizabeth prior to packing.

We will be at the private preview May 17th, and it would be lovely to see you if you are in attendance!

The exhibition opens in the U.K. In January at the V&A.

A little more about the exhibit in the words of PEM's official website reads:-

From the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century, ocean liners were floating showcases of technology, opulence and social sophistication. As icons of modernity and aspirational living, artists, engineers, architects and passengers all vied for influence and access in the creation and enjoyment of these man-made islands at sea.Ocean liners were intricately constructed pieces of culture — in the appearance of their design, the elegance of their engineering and the division of their social space — and each with its own distinct personality. Drawing from international institutions and private collections, the exhibition brings together nearly 200 works including paintings, sculpture, models, furniture, lighting, wall panels, textiles, fashion, photographs, posters and film. The exhibition is co-organized with the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.Share your impressions with us on social media using #OceanLiners.Ocean Liners: Glamour, Speed, and Style is organized by the Peabody Essex Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
