Jonathan Quayle has been dealing in Ocean Liner collectibles, antiques and British Decorative Arts for over 20 years.
His interest was first sparked as a child when he saw the illuminated QE2 leaving his hometown of Southampton for New York. He began researching the great Cunard liners and other ships and this voyage of discovery eventually led him to the RMS Queen Mary, which has captivated him ever since.
Jonathan’s expertise in the Queen Mary is second to none. He visits the old ship at her current mooring in Long Beach, California several times a year. He has an extensive personal collection of the ship’s art, fixtures and fittings, furniture, rugs and textiles as well as rare and unpublished interior photos. He is also currently writing a book on the Queen Mary and gives lectures on the subject by request.
Jonathan’s educational background includes a BA in Fine Art Valuation and an MA in Production Design for Film & TV. But despite his interest in both ancient and modern media his real passion has always been antiques, which his parents used to buy and sell as a hobby. In 1993 he set up The Pursers Locker to trade in maritime antiques, initially as a mail-order business then as an eBay storefront and, from 2016, as a fully-functioning online store and showcase for his unique collection of museum-standard pieces.
Over the years he has chosen to specialise in items from Cunard, White Star and French Line ships, with a particular focus on RMS Queen Mary, RMS Olympic, RMS Titanic, RMS Queen Elizabeth and the SS Normandie. He also likes to source items and memorabilia relating to the UK’s royal yachts dating from the 1870s to 1997 (HMY Elfin to HMY Britannia).
Jonathan lives and runs his business from his home on the Isle of Wight, between Bembridge and Sandown. He is happy to welcome clients to view his current stock and personal collection by appointment. If you would like to arrange a viewing please complete the enquiry form.
